Critter Corner: Marlyn Park Kittens
One August Saturday, in 100-degree heat, a very young mom cat and three adorable grey kittens were dumped at the edge of Lansdowne's Marlyn Park. Fortunately they were left near the home of Ellen and Rick, two new and very caring members of our group. The phone lines lit up, they soon rushed Mom ("Marlyn") to our vet for quick testing and got all four safely ensconced in their garage, immediately furnished with kitten food, cool water, litter boxes, bedding, and fans to combat the heat. Thanks to Ellen and Rick, Marlyn, Zane, Pewter, and Cloudy were already on their way to a better life.
Enter our friends at Pet Adoption and Lifecare Society (PALS.) More calls ensued, and PALS agreed to take our kittens in about three weeks if we could foster them until then. Relieved and thrilled at PALS' quick and kind response, we took the next step as Jackie, a founding member of AFL, moved the four cats into her home and under her protective wing.
The "Marlyn Park Four" are all doing extremely well. Two of the three kittens were placed with one owner, and the third kitten was placed with another family. That same family later returned to adopt the mother, as well, so mother and baby are together again.
